Word Studies

Understanding the key words Scripture uses helps reveal how the Bible explains its own ideas.

Word studies trace how important words are used across Scripture.
Rather than defining a word by modern assumptions, this approach follows how the Bible itself uses that word in different passages and contexts. Over time, patterns emerge that clarify what the word actually means.

Where Should You Start?

If you're new to word studies, start with one of the foundational words that appear frequently throughout Scripture. These words often carry major theological themes that run from Genesis to Revelation.

Why Word Studies Matter

The Bible often uses familiar words in ways that are deeper or more precise than modern usage.

For example, the word faith in Scripture is not merely belief, but trust that

expresses itself through obedience. Likewise, a modern dictionary may define grace as elegance or general goodwill. The biblical meaning is completely unrelated to elegance and much deeper than general goodwill.

Tracing how words appear across Scripture helps clarify meaning and prevents misunderstanding.
