Shadow to Substance Book Studies

Explore one book of Scripture carefully and see how its message ultimately points to Christ.

Each study moves passage by passage through a single book of the Bible, helping you observe the text closely and understand how the book fits within the larger story of Scripture.

How These Studies Work

Each Shadow → Substance Book Study is designed to help you study the Bible one book at a time. By moving carefully through a single book of Scripture, readers can understand the flow of the text and see how each part contributes to the larger message of the Bible.

Rather than rushing through large sections of Scripture, these studies focus on careful reading and thoughtful questions that help you observe what the text says and reflect on its meaning.

Typical studies include:

  • short daily passages

  • guided observation questions

  • connections to the larger story of Scripture

  • space for reflection and notes

The goal is simple: to help you know the text of Scripture well and see how it contributes to the Bible’s larger message.

Where to Begin

If you are beginning the Shadow → Substance studies, the Gospel of John is a natural place to start. John was written so that readers may believe that Jesus is the Christ, and it provides a clear introduction to who He is and why He came.

Explore the Larger Story

Shadow to Substance studies also include thematic studies that trace patterns across the entire Bible, showing how earlier shadows prepare the way for later fulfillment.
